    SSL Encryption Moves to 2048

As mentioned earlier in the year, our SSL vendors have been transitioning to 2048-bit roots for all SSL certificate products including all SSL products sold through Digital Days. As a result of the transition, our vendors now require 2048-bit Certificate Signing Requests (CSRs) to be submitted with most SSL certificate orders.

Please note that while it is technically possible to submit a 1024-bit CSR with some shorter-term SSL products for some brands of SSL certificates sold through Digital Days, we strongly recommend that you require and submit 2048-bit CSRs with all certificate orders . Requiring 2048-bit CSRs for all orders now will ensure that you avoid any complications both now and in the future as our vendors continue the transition process.

    Digital Days Anniversary

With the arrival of the month of December this year, Digital Days celebrates it’s 10th year in business.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their support (some of whom have been with us for all 10 years!) and to say what a pleasure it continues to be to serve our clients and participate in their growth and success.  It’s not in every business that one has the good fortune of having clients become friends, and that fact is certainly not lost on me.

Once again, thank you for your business, and all the best this coming year!

    Digital Days Moves to VoIP

Digital Days is pleased to announce that we have just completed the implementation of Open Source Asterisk as our new VoIP-based telephony system.

The use of Asterisk will now provide customers with more options, more information, and a more advanced emergency support system.

Please note that our menu options have changed, however key menu selections from our previous phone system remain.  Other than for specific employee extensions, there is no need to update staff on contact procedures for Digital Days.

    Website Browser Icons: favicon.ico

Customers often ask me how to get their logo to appear in the tab at the top of their browser when viewing their website.

    x

In the past some basic Photoshop skills were required, but today you can simply use Chami‘s online webtool FavIcon from Pics.

Just take any large copy of your logo, make sure it’s in the form of a square, and upload it to Chami for conversion.  You’ll receive a zip file with your icon for you to upload to the root folder of your site.  It’s that simple.

You can even make animated favicons with any text you like using the site.

    Additional Datacenter

Digital Days is now in both the Canix and iWeb datacenters here in Montreal.  Digital Days will continue to maintain equipment in both locations and allow customers to add managed and colocated equipment in both datacenters under the same contract.

Our equipment in iWeb’s latest datacenter (formerly the National Bank’s datacenter which has been considerably upgraded) will be serviced by the following providers in BGP:

iWeb has recently added 3 new carriers, 4 more Gbps uplinks, and now sports 15 Gbps total capacity.

    Solaris Server

The installation of the latest version of BIND (which addresses a critical security whole) has caused some performance issues on solaris.digitaldays.net due to a memory consumption problem.  We are following the situation and will advise when a permanent solution is in place.

    All other servers are unaffected.
